Barton Utd U14s travelled away to face Launton in the first round of the County Cup. With pretty bad pitch conditions it was fair to say it took us a while to find our feet and get into the game.

Launton started off strong and despite some good football from our girls at half time we were 4-1 down.

Half time get together, a few changes made bringing Ella’s pace at the back, Hopes strength into midfield, G out on the left wing and the girls confident in the positions they set to play in saw Barton come out fighting.

At the start of the second half they were asked if they wanted to win this and that’s exactly what they did.

First 5 minutes in Barton put away a goal, showing Launton we were still very much in the game and were not going to go out easily, that was just the start and the goals didn’t stop coming. . .

Every single player knuckled down, showed enormous strength and character. They worked together as a solid team and didn’t give up for the full 45 minutes.

We put Launton under pressure, kept our composure and took every opportunity we had to bring it back.

I have coached these girls for a few years and today was one of the proudest moments, not for the win but the sheer determination and spirit that was on the pitch.
